When was the last time you had a really good night’s sleep?

The real question is, when was the last time you burned fat, regenerated your cells and slowed your aging process while you slept? How and when you sleep is one of the most powerful lifestyle choices you can make. It has been proved study after study that people who sleep well, are slimmer, happier, more energetic and healthier than those who don’t get a full night’s rest.

Sleep is your hormonal reset button for the body. The purpose of sleep isn’t just to stop you from nodding off the next day. So much happens when you sleep which is vital for your health and well-being. While you sleep, you are lowering your fat storing and stress hormones (insulin and cortisol), while increasing your fat burning, muscle building and anti-aging hormones (growth hormone, testosterone and glucagon).

If you choose to go to bed late at night because you’re watching your favourite TV programme, you’re missing out on the hormonal reset your body needs to get lean and strong, and live a long happy life. Ask yourself, do you want a lean healthy body or do you want to watch TV? Easy, stick it on record and go for option 1!

Top tips for a good night’s sleep:

  • Aim for 7-9 hours sleep, getting to bed at 10pm

  • Reduce screen time 1 hour before bed (TV, laptop, mobile phone)

  • Dim the lights throughout the house in the evening

  • Take a bath, read or walk before bed

  • Drink herbal tea like chamomile in the evening

  • Get black out blinds in your bedroom
