Laura: Why I became a personal trainer.

Throughout my life my weight has yo-yo’d. I have been a size 8 and almost a size 14. I also know all too well that feeling of being in a gym and not having a clue what I am doing! I used to have zero confidence in a gym, but gradually over time I built up my knowledge and love for exercise.

When I look back at the times in my life I have felt the least stressed, the most confident, the strongest emotionally and happy, they all coincide with when I have been committed to working out and eating well. I found that the confidence that came from conquering a heavier weight, learning a new move, and feeling capable in my body had a massive impact on other aspects of my life.

I have always been passionate about empowering others. Since I was a child I have always known I was meant to work with people but was never quite sure in what capacity. I used to work with disadvantaged young people and ran a young women’s group. To empower the girls I booked a female kickboxing instructor and designed a happy healthy summer program. The change in the girls was amazing, a true joy to see. It got me thinking: I could be that instructor and help others to feel strong and confident.

So I made the jump. I retrained whilst working my office job and here I am at Empowered Fitness. For me, being a PT is about so much more than helping people to look good. It’s deeper than that. It’s about empowering people to take control of their life - to love their bodies and to gain more confidence.
