Personal Trainer tips: How to exercise when you don’t have time.

With everyone leading such busy lives it can be hard to find time to exercise, but we’ve got a few tips for you which will hopefully help kickstart your health and fitness journey:

1. Book a workout into your diary

Make yourself accountable and get a slot booked in your diary, just like you would a work meeting or social gathering with friends. Treat it like those meetings, in that you wouldn't just cancel last minute. Commit yourself and keep it booked in!

2. Set your alarm earlier

Try and get up that little bit earlier in the morning, and have your gym clothes ready to go the night before. If you’re all prepared the night before you’re far less likely to give it a miss, plus you can still be at work on time with that earlier start!

3. Walk more and keep moving

Perhaps you can walk to work, or go for a walk at lunchtime. At home, you get more involved with the gardening, play with the kids or go for a walk with friends, family or the dog!

4. Workout at home

If you don’t have access to the gym, you can always set up your mini gym area at home or in the garden. You don’t need much space or equipment to have a great workout, and you don’t even need to get in the car to get there. You could challenge yourself to do as many squats as you can before the kettle boils! Or perhaps have a quick workout whilst dinner is cooking. If you’re home from work at 5:30 and off out at 6:30, you could have a 10-minute workout before you hop in the shower, remember lots of short but intense workouts are much better than no workouts at all!

5. Step it up in stages

Once you’ve got into the habit of getting up earlier, or finding that you can now squeeze in a short session a couple of times a week, try and gradually increase the time of the workout per day (no longer than 30mins per day of high intensity training) and the frequency of workouts.
